As you may have realized, numerous fly-fishing enthusiasts enjoy sharing their expertise and opinions on the best practices. However, it’s advisable to sidestep the chatter and simply go fishing. Regarding the prices of fly rods, I came across some intriguing ‘options ‘ideas’ today.
A frequently asked question is: “Which ‘finished’ rods are comparable to your blanks?”
Recently, I had the opportunity to test a variety of ‘big name’ fly rods at a fly-fishing camp. Equipped with a new 2024 Xi 9′ 5-wt and an X2i 9′ 5-weight, I endeavored to compare these renowned rods to my own (Xi & X2i blanks). Admittedly, this comparison wasn’t entirely scientific, as not all rods were paired with the same brand/model of fly line and reel. But then again, this is my blog, isn’t it?
After experimenting with the rods, I ‘memorized’ the data and decided to investigate the prices and specifications that various companies charge for their fly rods before sharing my observations. The findings are astonishing. By comparing my rods, crafted from our X’s to the assortment available that weekend, and then analyzing the prices and specifications, I am utterly astounded.

The prices of ‘brand name’ fly rods appear to be quite exorbitant. In fact, some of the prices are just plain ridiculous!!
Our 2024 Xi’s, crafted with high-quality components and blanks, will produce rods that big companies sell for \$499 to \$699. As for our X2i? They will result in finished rods that could retail between \$699 and \$999.
Currently, our Xi and X2i series are available at a 30% discount! The 2024 Xi Kits are priced between $132.97 and $167.97, while the X2i Kits are offered from $153.97 to $202.97. These are exceptional deals for kits that assemble rods valued at over $500!

2. Explore the New X2i Models – Eight ‘Fast’ Options Available
In 2023, we introduced a lighter, faster & thinner blank series which was badged the “X2i”. There were only 2 models, a 9’5-wt. and a 9′ 8wt. At the beginning of this year, we added, in the X2i Series, a 7′ 2-wt., 7’9″ 3wt., 9′ 4-wt., 9′ 6-wt. and 10′ 6 & 7 weights. So, we now have 8 X2i Models!

Regardless, you’re going to love fishing with this rod—just place it on the water and prepare to be astonished! Personally, I only need to consider when and where I want my fly to touch down, and the X2 effortlessly places it exactly there. Given the performance of the kit, you might even think we should have charged more once you’ve tried it out!
