Description
Seaguide Hi-Wrap rod building thread features unfading colors and strong tensile strength. Their aim is to provide rod builders with more high-quality alternatives in this category. The present Hi-WRAP thread is available in over 260 models in poly and metallic in 4oz. spools (3.3oz metallic), 1oz. spools and 100 meter spools. According to Seaguide, their Hi-WRAP poly thread does not require a color preserver, the color will not change with the epoxy resin is applied. After we tested it ourselves, we would say that there is a very, very slight darkening of the threads when the finish is applied. It’s barely noticeable and I’d personally recommend using Hi-Wrap without color preserver.
Seaguide’s Mono Poly rod winding thread is made from polyester. Generally speaking, we like polyester threads better than nylon because compared to nylon,
poly has better resistance to abrasion,**
the colors ‘pop’ (when preserved) more than nylon*,
enjoyable to work with,
allows for an excellent finish,
more resistant to UV rays** and
ages better than nylon.**
As far as we are concerned, the switch to polyester rod building threads is a significant upgrade. With Hi-Wrap Mono Poly, we actually can offer you a better thread at a reasonable price!
**After doing some research, I noticed that in the boating & outdoor industry, many of the items are made from polyester for the reasons in the bullet points above. Those are very demanding environments and they have a preference for polyester.
*Many professional rod builders prefer polyester over nylon. Makers who weave, or have other handy-work to ‘show off’, strongly prefer polyester.
