I only a ‘bit’ surprised at how Seaguide guides & tip tops are selling almost every day! But more surprising is the fact that many people would rather pay more for “lesser quality” guides!
Not convinced? Just take a glance at the guide sets offered by my competitors. If you make rods of any kind and seek guide sets, you’ll immediately understand what I’m getting at.
Since our customers are very smart, they’d rather we invested in the product & offer better products at a similar price to the ‘fancy packaged’ ones!
(Primarily, I pack ours, with occasional ‘assistance‘ from Terry!)

Major Manufacturers of Fly Rods Trust Seaguide
But the title of this short post is “Research on Seaguide”, so let’s get to that. St. Croix, Orvis, G. Loomis, Scott, and Winston all use Seaguide ‘guides’ with the Adaman Finish. To remind you what ‘Adaman’ is, Seaguide says “Adaman is our PVD (Eco-Friendly) finish for any steel ring guides, snake guides, or tops etc. This PVD finish is more than 2 times any other PVD finished guides on the market, as well as harder and smoother.” I just call it PVD2…

The ‘high end’ of the rod-building industry just love the Adaman finish on their guides and tops. This PVD finish is more than 2 times harder and 6 times smoother than any other PVD finished guides on the market.
To put this another way, St. Croix, Orvis, G. Loomis, Scott and Winston all have much, much larger research facilities/personnel/equipment/etc. than Hook & Hackle does. And when you buy their excellent rods, you are paying, in part, for all that research. Since we let them do the research for us, we can give you better products, whether they’re individual guides, tip tops, guide ‘sets’ or rod building kits! And, we don’t have to charge you for the research.
And the stripping guides? Our LGB with the RS Ceramic Ring, aka silicon nitride, is being used on Thomas & Thomas, G. Loomis, Scott and Winston too. (They may vary from ‘exactly’ the same guide: might be solid titanium, some use the LGB with the Zirconium ring, but you get the idea!)

H&H offers Adaman finish in Black, Silver, and Gunsmoke colors. Hands down the hardest, most durable PVD finish you can find. We are currently choosing designs/colors/finishes/ceramics for late fall/early winter. Feel free to offer suggestions: email: ron@hookhack.com or terry@hookhack.com.

I’d like to order guide sets specific to each model rather than having to order fly rod guides on a single basis. Can this be arranged, please? Ron Uhlenhopp
